{"id":326,"date":"2015-04-01T07:25:49","date_gmt":"2015-04-01T11:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/ars-ducendi\/"},"modified":"2015-03-30T15:26:34","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T19:26:34","slug":"ars-ducendi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/ars-ducendi\/","title":{"rendered":"ARS DUCENDI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a style=\"display: inline;\" href=\"http:\/\/epicliving.blogs.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c78f953ef01538f0595d1970b-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341c78f953ef01538f0595d1970b image-full\" title=\"Painter's brushstroke\" src=\"http:\/\/epicliving.blogs.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c78f953ef01538f0595d1970b-800wi\" alt=\"Painter's brushstroke\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t think of a more abused\/overused word than &#8220;leadership.&#8221;\u00a0 So few practice well the ARS DUCENDI (latin for the art of leadership).\u00a0 Seems like we should shy away from using it.\u00a0 But, alas, this post isn&#8217;t about how to remove a word from our modern lexicon.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve come to a point in my life where I believe that the &#8220;art&#8221; of leadership is found in integration and balance.\u00a0 Show me a man or woman who integrates and applies balance to their lives, and I&#8217;ll show you someone who understands what true leadership is.\u00a0 They may not have a title, may not have a corner office, may not rake in tons of dough, but they know and live the art of leadership.<\/p>\n<p>The integration part is when the leader sees all areas of life (eight in my view) as important and therefore worth the time and work needed.\u00a0 It would be easy here to anoint then\u00a0as a superhero\/heroine.\u00a0 In a culture like ours (America in my case) we see these folks as superhuman and worthy of worship.\u00a0 This is a fatal mistake.\u00a0 We should never allow any human to live out our destiny for us.\u00a0 As rhetorical as that statement sounds, many people are on the sidelines, content to let someone else play their role.\u00a0 As you have heard before, only you can be you.<\/p>\n<p>The balance part is\u00a0a thing of beauty.\u00a0 I consider it the knowing when to and when not to.\u00a0 Miles Davis was brilliant at this from a musical standpoint.\u00a0 He seemed to know that the music was inside him and he needed to get out of the way so that it could flow out.\u00a0 Balance is found when you know the context and you live accordingly.\u00a0 For example, you know you&#8217;ve hit the point of diminishing return in the workday and your daughter is nudging you to communicate.\u00a0 You want to tackle one more email, but there she is.\u00a0\u00a0At this point, those who practice balance know it&#8217;s time to shut the work down and inject themselves into the life of their daughter.\u00a0 Like Miles, you get out of the way.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time for you to start your version of ARS DUCENDI.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t ignore it and expect to have a life you want.\u00a0 Fools have tried and find themselves in the sad state of regret.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I can&#8217;t think of a more abused\/overused word than &#8220;leadership.&#8221;\u00a0 So few practice well the ARS DUCENDI (latin for the art of leadership).\u00a0 Seems like we should shy away from using it.\u00a0 But, alas, this post isn&#8217;t about how to remove a word from our modern lexicon.
