{"id":384,"date":"2014-08-20T06:38:06","date_gmt":"2014-08-20T10:38:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/dont-trust-the-beast\/"},"modified":"2014-08-16T22:31:19","modified_gmt":"2014-08-17T02:31:19","slug":"dont-trust-the-beast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/dont-trust-the-beast\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Trust The Beast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a style=\"display: inline;\" href=\"http:\/\/epicliving.blogs.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c78f953ef013483834e75970c-pi\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341c78f953ef013483834e75970c \" title=\"Lion\" src=\"http:\/\/epicliving.blogs.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c78f953ef013483834e75970c-800wi\" alt=\"Lion\" width=\"400\" height=\"270\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>A re-post from 2010.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You coexist with your business.\u00a0 It should not be your friend.\u00a0 It is a beast and not meant to be trusted.\u00a0 It demands much, but as it is with a circus lion, a chair and whip are in order.\u00a0 To think of that animal in any other light only invites ruin.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, many entrepreneurs, corporate slaves and others have wrapped their identities around the beast.\u00a0 It is a sad love affair.\u00a0 Just like the lover who swears this is the last one of many, a broken heart sits in waiting.\u00a0 By the way, you can know how tightly you&#8217;re wrapped by how much you think about the beast.\u00a0 The more you think, the tighter the wrap.<\/p>\n<p>This post is not meant to talk you out of your business pursuits.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, it can be a fantastic tool for growth.\u00a0 The issue is one of ownership, not should I or shouldn&#8217;t I pursue a business idea\/career.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some\u00a0solutions to the problem(s):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Buy yourself a chair and whip.\u00a0 It might be in the form of cutting back on your hours or developing a fitness\/exercise program.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re wondering what those two have to do with managing your business, look at the statistics around those who work long hours and don&#8217;t pay attention to their health.<\/li>\n<li>Look failure in the face and don&#8217;t back down.<\/li>\n<li>Start working smarter and stop trying to do everything.\u00a0 Rugged individualism may sound great in a speech, but it&#8217;s highly overrated.<\/li>\n<li>Re-evaluate your needs.\u00a0 In America two-thirds of the economy is based on consumption.\u00a0 Nothing wrong with consumption, but do you really need&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>Prepare for battle.\u00a0 <strong>The beast will not like you taking back control.<\/strong>\u00a0 This one is important.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not careful you might give up, but don&#8217;t.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; A re-post from 2010.
