{"id":802,"date":"2007-04-06T11:25:50","date_gmt":"2007-04-06T11:25:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/watch_out_for_f\/"},"modified":"2007-04-06T11:25:50","modified_gmt":"2007-04-06T11:25:50","slug":"watch_out_for_f","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/watch_out_for_f\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Out for 50"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once heard a great speaker warn an audience about turning 50.&nbsp; The audience was made up of and directed toward men.&nbsp; The warning was basically wrapped around the loss of energy and urgency that descends on a person when they hit 50.&nbsp; He also highlighted the emergence of passivity.&nbsp; I shutter at the thought of what that says about the majority of senior level executives in America today, but I&#8217;ll save my thoughts on that for another post.<\/p>\n<p>This issue is one I&#8217;ve observed inside of for-profit and non-profit organization alike.&nbsp; It usually means the person has settled and has stopped dreaming.&nbsp; It cripples people in the enterprise and people (usually customers) outside it&#8230;not to mention families.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, our entertainment industry has created a type of drug that perpetuates the problem.&nbsp; People become more interested in leisure, pleasure and luxury, which deadens the senses.&nbsp; Senses that are vital in navigating through the entire story of life&#8230;not just the first-half.&nbsp; When we become spectators and audiences, we cease to be interested in playing our part in destiny.<\/p>\n<p>So if you&#8217;re 40 or about ready to cross-over to 50, consider evaluating on the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start accelerating in all aspects of life (for me that means God, family, my health, friends, passions). <\/li>\n<li>Stop pursuing entertainment (television, sporting events, etc.) so much.&nbsp; Cut it in half and begin investing in your mental, physical and spiritual health. <\/li>\n<li>Increase the amount of reading (specifically books) you do. <\/li>\n<li>Turn off the information machines (computer, PDA, Blackberry, etc.) for one day every week (Sunday works well for me). <\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t rationalize that you don&#8217;t have time.&nbsp; Your life depends on it! <\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t confuse net-worth with self-worth.&nbsp; Many people are extremely unhappy because of this mistake. <\/li>\n<li>Start dreaming again&#8230;keep dreaming if the shoe fits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once heard a great speaker warn an audience about turning 50.&nbsp; The audience was made up of and directed toward men.&nbsp; The warning was basically wrapped around the loss of energy and urgency that descends on a person when they hit 50.&nbsp; He also highlighted the emergence of passivity.&nbsp; I shutter at the thought of&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-802","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/802","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=802"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/802\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=802"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=802"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.epicliving.com\/epic\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=802"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
